Where possible, follow the rules set out in chapter 3 when citing cases from overseas jurisdictions. This chapter supplements those rules with rules specific to individual jurisdictions.

When citing a reported case, official report series are preferred.

Cite unreported judgments using an official neutral citation. Where an official neutral citation is not available, cite the case as consistently as possible with the rules for New Zealand unreported cases in rule 3.4.
