Transcripts of oral arguments in the Supreme Court are published on the Courts of New Zealand website available at <www.courtsofnz.govt.nz>.
Supreme Court transcripts from 2011 onwards include a transcript number on the first page of the transcript. The transcript number functions like a neutral citation for the transcript. Transcripts should be cited using this number in accordance with the rule for citing neutral citations (see rule 3.3).
Eg Westpac New Zealand Ltd v Map & Associates Ltd [2011] NZSC Trans 15 at 7.
Pre-2011 transcripts should be cited using the file number citation format (see rule 3.4) with the addition of the word “Transcript” after the case name and before the Supreme Court file number. Instead of the date of judgment, give the date of the first day of the hearing.
Eg Dollars & Sense Ltd v Nathan Transcript SC31/2007, 22 November 2007.
Where a Supreme Court hearing is divided into two or more parts, each part of the hearing should be cited separately. For each part give the date of the first day of the hearing of the particular part.
Eg Couch v Attorney-General Transcript SC49/2006, 17 April 2007.
Eg Couch v Attorney-General Transcript SC49/2006, 11 November 2008.
Eg Couch v Attorney-General Transcript SC49/2006, 23 March 2009.
