The format for citing Hansard is as follows:

Eg (6 April 2005) 624 NZPD 19676.

For the United Kingdom Parliamentary Debates, the same format is used. Include “HC” or “HL” after the abbreviated title to indicate whether the debate took place in the House of Commons or the House of Lords. For the pinpoint reference, give the column number.

Eg (1 November 1990) 178 GBPD HC 1088.

Eg (8 July 1996) 574 GBPD HL 1.

Recent Hansard not yet incorporated into a bound volume is available on the New Zealand Parliament website at <www.parliament.nz> but it will not have page numbers for the pinpoint reference. In place of a page number, give the subject details provided on the website and the speaker in round brackets.

Eg (16 August 2017) 724 NZPD (Maritime Transport Amendment Bill – Second Reading, Julie Anne Genter).

Eg (9 November 2017) 725 NZPD (Address in Reply, Steven Joyce).
