Animal Law Conference - a NZ first
~~~~1 July 2017 – AUCKLAND The Conference, being run by the New Zealand Animal Law Association (NZALA), will be the first of its kind in New Zealand on the topic of animal law. It will provide a unique opportunity to disseminate relevant information and provide a forum for debate on a topical and important area of law. The NZALA invites interested practitioners, students and members of the public to attend this conference in Auckland on Saturday 1st July at Kensington Swan. The Conference will focus on different aspects of Animal Law in New Zealand – factory farming, prosecutions, animal sentience and the law. The keynote speaker is Michael Kirby AC CMG from Australia and he will speak on ‘Problems with New Zealand’s animal law regime and recommendations for the future’ and will draw on international legislative developments and thinking and apply it to New Zealand law and practice. The organisers are delighted to announce that Dr Jane Goodall, internationally renowned world-expert on chimpanzees, will also attend the conference and speak about her work around the world tackling animal welfare issues, including her work to combat illegal wildlife trade. Her appearance at the conference has been arranged by the Jane Goodall Institute New Zealand.
