The winners are:<\/p>\n<p class=\"g_1i-z21khy- s_1i-z21gjtz clearfix\">Rez Gardi, who will study for her LLM at Harvard focussing on the interface between refugee law and Human rights, particularly with reference to child protection systems.  Rez is a graduate of Auckland Law School and is currently working at the Human Rights Commission.<\/p>\n<div id=\"js_9r3\" class=\"_5pbx userContent _3576\" data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\">\n<div id=\"id_5affaa167cf502d27657938\" class=\"text_exposed_root text_exposed\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Rez-Gardi-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8981\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Rez-Gardi-cropped-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Rez Gardi - cropped\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kate Stone, who will study for her LLM at Columbia, researching law and social change with a particular f<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">ocus on systematic discrimination in the criminal justice system.  Kate is a Crown Counsel working in the Constitutional and Human Rights, and Treaty of Waitangi and Maori Legal Issues teams, Crown Law Office.  She graduated with an LLM from Auckland Law School and studied at Victoria Law School for her LLB.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Kate-Stone-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8982\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Kate-Stone-cropped-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Kate Stone - cropped\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Burgess, who will undertake study for her LLM at Yale, examining how the NZ Courts should strike a balance between government powers and individual rights in our public health environment. Taylor graduated from Auckland Law School and is an Assistant Crown Counsel at the Crown Law Office.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Taylor-Burgess-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-8983\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Taylor-Burgess-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Burgess 2\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>We congratulate Rez, Kate and Taylor and wish them well with their studies and future careers.<\/p>\n<p>This is the 20th anniversary of this scholarship which honours NZ&#8217;s first woman barrister and solicitor, Ethel Benjamin, admitted in 1897. Over this time, this scholarship has helped 40 young women with their postgraduate study. Since the centenary of this event, the Law Foundation has awarded this scholarship annually to outstanding New Zealand women law graduates for post-graduate study.
