{"id":7245,"date":"2016-09-08T22:51:12","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T22:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/?p=7245"},"modified":"2016-09-16T06:55:08","modified_gmt":"2016-09-16T06:55:08","slug":"outstanding-contribution-of-otago-law-professors-skegg-and-smillie-is-acknowledged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lawfoundation.org.nz\/?p=7245","title":{"rendered":"*Outstanding contribution: Otago Law Professors Skegg and Smillie are acknowledged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday the Otago Law Faculty celebrated the launch of two Law Foundation funded books written in honour of their academic staff:  Emeritus Professor Peter Skegg and Emeritus Professor John Smillie.<\/p>\n<p>The books, &#8220;Law, Ethics, and Medicine: Essays in honour of Peter Skegg&#8221; and &#8220;The Search for Certainty: Essays in Honour of John Smillie&#8221;, are tributes to the wonderful contribution these two outstanding scholars have made during their academic careers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"float: left; display: inline-block; padding-right: 20px; padding-top: 10px;\" src=\" http:\/\/www.lawfoundation.org.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Emeritus-Professor-John-Smillie-and-Emeritus-Professor-Peter-Skegg_Easy-Resize.com_.jpg\" alt=\"Professors John Smillie and Peter Skegg receive festschrifts written in honour of their outstanding contribution to law during their academic careers\" width=\"269\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Professor Skegg has been described as \u2018one of the two fathers of medical law&#8217; and a leading figure in the study of law and medicine. During his 46-year academic career he has worked at the University of Auckland, University of Oxford, and the University of Otago.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Smillie&#8217;s career at the University of Otago spanned over forty years in which he engaged in many different areas of the law.
